Ecological Design for our Urban Habitats
Habitat City strives to design backyard landscapes and habitats that fit into the immediate natural landscape. Designs and plant selection will vary for the east side of the city versus the west side, sandy soil versus clay, and south-facing aspect versus north-facing. In general, we design for a yard to need no extra water, though every site is different. In some cases, depending on the environmental factors, water-loving natives may be appropriate.
Steps include:
- determine client's goals
- create landscaping/gardening plan that is practical, water-conserving, low maintenance, and aesthetically pleasing
- create full plant list
- integrate other features, e.g., frog ponds or other water features, walls, paths etc.
